X. 9.9. - According to the legend here narrated, the cows of Brhaspati had been stolen by the Panis, the followers of the Asure Vala. At Brhaspati’s instance Indra sett Sarama in search of them. She having crossed a large river arrived at Vala's stronghold and discovered the cattle. The Panis trying to make friends with her, the dialogue contained in this Sukta then ensued.
