Introduction

Nandipur Shakthi Peeth is the place where Sati’s necklace fell. Devi Sati is worshipped as Nandini and Lord Bhairav is worshipped as Nandikeshwar or Nandikishore.

Location

The temple is located in Nandipur village which is now part of Sainthia town, in Birbhum district, Murshidabad, West Bengal. Temple is 220 kms from Kolkatta. The temple is 1.5 kms from the nearest Sainthia railway station. There are several buses which ply to the temple. The temple is sanctified by Tista River.

There is also Lord Jagannath temple which is located beside the temple.

The Deity

The goddess is present in a big rock, smeared with vermillion, in the shape of the back of a tortoise (kurma). The deity is adorned with a silver crown and three golden eyes. Inside the temple are shrines of Sri Hanumanji, Rama- Sita, NavDurga, Lord Shiva, Dashavatara and Lord Vishnu. There are sculptures of various gods and goddess sketched on the temple walls.  There is also a sacred tree, to which people bind red and yellow threads for their wishes to be fulfilled.

Festivals and Fairs

Special pujas and Yagnas are held on Buddha Poornima or Baishaki Poornima. Kalika Devi Puja is held on Amavasya. Besides, Navaratri is celebrated during Ashwija masa (September- October) with great fervour.

Devi Nandini is offered Anna Bogh daily. The temple is open from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm daily.
