Introduction:
Shiv is the creator of universe, the one who produced the first humanbeing on this earth. We pray to the Shiv linga as the origin of our birth and this life. “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” – the embodiment of (Satya) truth, goodness (Shiv) and (Sundar) beauty, that is Lord Shiva. Shiva is one of the trinity, the other two are lords Vishnu and Brahma

Om Sarva Mangal Manglaye Shivay Sarvaarth Sadhike
Sharanye Trayambake Gauri Narayaani Namostu Te
Meaning: Oh thy divine couple Shiva and Parvati ! Oh,thee,the protectors of the universe! Along with Lords Brahma and Vishnu, we pray to You for our well-being, prosperity and the enlightenment of our souls.

Nagendra Haaraaya Trilochanaaya
Bhasmanga Raagaya Maheshwaraya
Nithyaaya Suddhaaya Dhigambaraaya
Thasmai Na Kaaraaya Namashivaya Nama Shivaaya
Meaning: I offer my humble salutations to Lord Maheshwar, who has a garland of serpants around his neck, who is three-eyed, whose body is covered with ash, who is eternal, who is pure, who has the entire sky as his dress and who is the embodiment of the first letter - Na.

Kailaasarana Shiva Chandramouli
Phaneendra Maathaa Mukutee Zalaalee
Kaarunya Sindhu Bhava Dukha Haaree
Thujaveena Shambho Maja Kona Taaree
Meaning: Lord Shiva is seated on Mount Kailash, his forehead is decked with the moon and the king of serpents - these are his crown. The lord is full of compassion and the remover of illusion. Shiva is the only protector, I surrender myself to such a great lord, Shiva.

Meaning: I bow down to the Lord of Parvathi, the divine guru, the cause of the universe. I salute to the Lord who is adorned with snake and wears the tiger skin, the Lord of all the creatures. I bow down to the Lord whose three eyes are the sun, the moon and the fire and whom Lord Vishu is very close. I salute to the Lord who is the refuge of all the devotees and the giver of boons.

Nandhikesha Mahaabhaaga Shivadhyaana
ParaayaNa Gowrinandana Sevaartham
AnujGYaa Daatum Marhasii
Meaning: O! Lord Nandikesha, higly distinguished, son of Gowri and wholly devoted in the meditation of lord Shiva, please grant us the deserving permission to worship Lord Shiva. It has to be noted that this is sloka addressing Nandi.

Neelakantam Virupaksham Nirmalam
Nilayapradtham Namami Sirasa Devam
Kimno Mrithyu Karishyathee
Meaning: What can mere death do to me, when I salute to Lord Shiva, who throat is blue, three-eyed and who is pure and grants me stability.

Vamadevam Mahaadevam Lokanatham
Jagathgurum Namami Sirasadevamkimno
Mrityu Karishyathe
Meaning: What can mere death do to me, when I bow down to Lord Shiva, the three-eyed one and the preceptor and lord of the universe.

Gowree Vilaasa Bhavanaaya
Maheswaraaya Panchaananaya
Saranaagatha Rakshakaaya Sarvaaya
Sarva Jagathaam Adhipaaya Thasmai
Dharidhrya Dhuka Dhahanaaya Namasivaaya
Meaning: I salute to thee, Lord Shiva, the remover of sorrow and poverty, who is the consort of goddess Gowri, who has five faces, who protects his devotees, and who is the Lord of the universe.

Thrilochanaya Smrakaala Hanthrey
Samastha Devairabhi Poojithaaya Shree
Vaidhyanathaaya Namachivaya
Meaning: Salutations to Sri Vaidyanatha, who holds the flowing waters of the river Ganga and the crescent moon in the locks of his hair. Salutations to thee, Lord Shiva, the three-eyed one and one that is worshipped by all the Devas and one that subdued Yama and Cupid.

Kaala Koota Vishaasana
Maam Uddhhare Padambhoje
Tripura Agnyata Kaantaka
Meaning: Please save me, oh Lord Shiva,. You are mother Parvati's consort, you are the one that drank the poison from the ocean (kaala koota), you are the destroyer of the three cities. Oh Lord, I have taken refuge at your feet.
